Viva Mexico!

As you may know, September 16th is the anniversary of Mexico's independence from Spain. This year, the celebration is even more special as it is the 200th year anniversary. This is a big deal and Mexicans all over the world have and will be celebrating. We, of course, are no exception. So we headed off to my aunt's house on Saturday night for a night of mariachi, pozole (a type of soup that I don't know how to make but I know how to eat!), tequila, dancing, and of course, The Grito. We love our parties and our costumes!

It was one of the funnest evenings I've had in a while.

A tub of beer. What can be grander?

Pozole. Yum.

I made this flan and I wanted it to look Mexican-y
but I think it looks more Christmas-y.

Sewing Month Update: One project done!

As promised, I completed one of my unfinished sewing projects. This army dude for Mateo. I started him about a year ago and really all that he needed was for me to attach his limbs. But I think that should count toward my commitment, don't you?

Master Chief may not look so mean, but you don't want to get him on a bad day.

He was inspired by the doll in Alicia Paulson's book, Stitched in Time. I made a couple of those dolls too, which I gave away as presents.

"Alright, night-light thingies from IKEA, drop down and give me 20!"

Oh, I keep forgetting to share the Baptism Poem my cousin, Elizabeth, wrote for Lorenzo on his baptism day. Here it is:

Precious Lorenzo Noah

You are a miracle, and a dream come true.
It will be my honor to grow in faith with you.
I welcome this invitation extended with love.
I will be your angel sharing words from above.
Tenderly hold you and look at your sweet face,
I say a little prayer, to be touched by grace.
So much of life ahead; dream of all you'll be.
Times we'll spend together, my Godson and me.
I will hold your hand, and stay by your side.
I will be your model, teacher, and guide.
I will give you time; think of you each day.
Keep you in my prayers, as you find your way.
I look forward to the years ahead,
And being a Godparent to you.
May our treasured bond grow strong,
And in faith our hearts be true.
