My dad came by yesterday to pick up Oreo. Very sad to see her go.

I think Red Beard is missing her too.

A few of my favorite things

Comfort food....


This is what I call Mexican comfort food. My favorite thing to do when I make a fresh pot of beans; serve them in a bowl with the broth, layer a scoop of white rice then add chopped tomato, onion, fresh cilantro and fresh jalapeno peppers. Mmm. Curl up with a good book and eat slowly. Mmmm. So good.

This is the first time I cooked the beans in the crock pot. They turned out pretty good. I use the white Peruvian beans instead of pinto beans because they are much creamier and a little more mild. However, if you are going to re-fry them, you will have a more flavorful outcome with the pinto.


Fresh cut roses from the garden....


Especially when my hubby cuts them for me!


And Kittens!

Our neighbors rescued a litter of six kittens that they found underneath a house. They nursed them and fed them. They even had them spayed and neutered. We adopted the orange tabby and named it Red Beard. My mom and dad adopted Oreo. They are just so adorable.
